Will I get to be with my family and other people from my church? Yes and no. We will do our best to make sure that you are in the same city and on the same plane as your family members or church members. Your trek group (group of about 10 who you will go out and do ministry with) will most likely not include your family / church members.
Will the students have health insurance? Yes. We purchase traveler’s insurance for every student through Adams and Associates. This is included as part of the trip cost. Adams is one of the leading companies in travel insurance.
What is the strategy / purpose of this trip? We will be partnering with International Mission Board missionaries. We adopt the purpose and strategy of the missionaries and do our best to serve them. This trip will consist mostly of prayer walking and relational evangelism.
Will there be adult supervision? Absolutely. In addition to the team and city leaders, there will be a group of adult chaperones who will constantly be doing head counts and looking after the general well being of the students.
What does the trip cost cover? Everything but souvenirs. The cost covers travel, food, lodging, training…everything.
What if I can’t afford it? We do not expect anyone to pay for this trip out of pocket. We will equip everyone who is accepted onto the team with a comprehensive fundraising guide. Students who follow all the steps in the guide should be able to raise the full trip cost and then some.
Is this trip safe? Ultimately, we cannot guarantee anyone’s physical safety. God Himself does not promise us that. However, we are constantly monitoring the political situation and talking to the missionaries who live in country about the status and atmosphere of the surrounding area.
How big are these teams? Last year, Trip A consisted of 66 people and Trip B consisted of 81. There is a 150 person cap for each team. If more than 300 apply, priority will be given to early applicants.
How will I know if I have been accepted? Everyone who sends in a complete application to our office will receive a letter in the mail that will inform them whether or not they have been accepted. It may be up to a month before you hear back from us. The sooner you apply, the sooner we will be able to respond. If you have any other questions that are not answered on the website, e-mail your trip coordinator Ky Martin at ky@igoglobal.org.
