The first two days listed in the trip dates will be spent in preparation for the trip; this time is known as Base Camp. Base Camp is like a missions? boot camp, and attendance is required of all participants.
Base Camp is an intense training process that all iGo Global teams go through. The name Base Camp comes from mountain climbing. Before climbing a large mountain, climbers spend a significant amount of time near the base of the mountain to prepare, train, and get to know their team. Similarly, the iGo Base Camp focuses on the following three elements:
1. Spiritual Preparation We will do our best to prepare the team spiritually for their journey. There will be several times dedicated to worship, prayer, and preaching. We will teach the Biblical purpose of missions and how that fleshes out on this trip.
2. Cross Cultural Training Since this team will be serving in a different culture, we will put the team through various teaching and simulations to prepare them to effectively adjust to a new culture. To survive this cross-culture simulation at Base Camp, teams must learn and adapt to the rules of iGosia, the country and culture where Base Camp takes place.
3. Team Building There is no record of any missionaries in the Bible who served alone. Having a team that knows and trusts each other is an important element of any trip. Several teaching times and training elements will be geared towards team building.
