Shannon Hopkins and his family left behind their “normal” lives and Shannon’s youth ministry position in order to serve and love the people of Honduras.

Shannon’s team shares Christ with Hondurans through a variety of mission and ministry activities. They have a farm, work at a radio station, teach at a Christian school, serve orphans, and help lead a church in Gracias, Honduras.

What will our team be doing?

One of your main responsibilities as a member of the FLT (Field Leadership Team) is to help lead other teams. The FLT plays a huge part in leading the many teams that will come to Honduras for week-long trips throughout the summer. So in addition to ministering to the nationals, you will also be ministering to the team members you are leading. You'll be preparing for their arrival, mentoring them as they minister, and serving them in ways that ensure they have a great experience while they are there.

The teams that come in for one week will do a variety of activities such as leading a youth camp for the kids in the school. At the camp, they will help lead recreation, bible study, worship, small groups, etc. They will do relational evangelism. Some of them may travel to remote villages, help on the farm that Shannon runs,  and share their testimony on the radio station.  We will also have roles for students in the administrative and logistical side of the camp. As an FLT member, you'll be doing a lot of these same activities, and leading others into that work as well.

One of the greatest parts about the FLT trips is the opportunity to serve directly under the missionaries and church planters. Shannon, along with the iGo staff and your team leaders, will be overseeing you as you learn to lead others. You truly are considered part of Shannon's team while you serve in this capacity and will be learning the ins and outs of what it means to reach a city effectively using short-term teams as part of that strategy.

Shannon invites you to come and walk with his team and family as they share the love of Jesus with the people of Honduras.

Safety

At iGo, safety is always a high priority and we take extensive measures to ensure the success of the students on our teams. From registering every student with the embassy, to giving all our leaders training, we do everything in our power to minimize risk and be prepared for any issue that might arise on the field.

Cost

We estimate the cost of this trip to be approximately $3600*. It will cover meals, lodging, airfare, training, in country transportation, travel insurance, etc… everything but souvenirs. We provide all team members with a fundraising guide upon acceptance and other helpful resources.

*Due to the volatility of fuel prices and their effect on travel costs, we can not provide the exact cost until closer to the trip dates.

Supervision

Ky Martin is the Trip Coach (staff member in charge of logistics) for this team. He will be your main contact leading up to the trip. This team will also have a Team Leader who will travel and serve with the team. All Team Leaders have a proven track record of responsibility, travel competency, and faithfulness to their church.

Training

The first two days of your trip will be a stateside training program called Base Camp. The two primary focuses of Base Camp are:

  1. Spiritual Preparation: Teachings that will give you a biblical framework for missional living.
  2. Cross Cultural Training: Simulations and activities that will enable you to cross cultures effectively.
